About

A marketing consultancy for technical firms

Build a reputation that enters the room before your proposal does.

Who We Are

Founded by a former structural engineer

Drawings, RFP language, prequalification and project delivery culture do not need translating first, so the work starts at the level your buyers already operate at.

Socially Formal is a consultancy for technical B2B companies whose revenue is won on relationships, reputation and shortlists rather than on volume. It was founded by a former structural engineer, so the starting point is not learning your business, it is already understanding how it is bought.

Firms in this space rarely have an enquiry problem. They have a memorability problem. When three shortlisted firms all look competent, the decision falls to price, and the strongest technical work quietly loses to whoever was easier to argue for internally.

The client list is deliberately short. That is what makes close involvement possible, and it is why the person you meet in the first conversation is the person doing the work.

What We Are Building

Return on Relationships

The aim is to be the go-to authority for B2B brands that want to look, sound and operate at the premium level their clients expect. In practice that means helping premium B2B service firms turn social media into a growth engine, by combining strategy, precision and brand perception.

Too many strong companies stay unseen while weaker ones get noticed first. We stay close enough to the work to make the value show up clearly in the market, and we measure it as revenue won through relationships and RFPs rather than as volume.

01

Engineer turned strategist

Structured, predictable systems in marketing, from someone who has read the drawings and the RFP language before.

02

Image-first strategist

Elevate perception, not just presence. How a firm is seen decides who gets asked, long before anyone compares fees.

03

Results-driven marketer

Data and creativity together, measured as business growth rather than as a list of activities delivered.

01

Close Partnership

We work inside your business, not adjacent to it. Enough context to be genuinely useful, and not enough distance to produce the generic material every firm in your sector already has.

02

Clear Thinking

Sharp positioning first, tactics only once the thinking holds. Most marketing problems in technical firms are unresolved positioning problems wearing a tactical disguise.

03

Standards That Show

A buyer with no way to assess engineering quality will use the quality of your material as the proxy. That proxy is worth controlling.

Questions

About the practice

An agency sells capacity: people to run channels. This sells judgement, which is the part that decides whether a technical firm is shortlisted. The work is deliberately not structured around billable headcount.

It removes the translation step. Drawings, prequalification documents, RFP language and project delivery culture do not have to be explained first, so the conversation starts where a marketer would usually still be catching up.

Specialist production such as design or video is brought in where it is genuinely better. The positioning, the messaging and the decisions are not handed to anyone else.

Firms that need volume lead generation, firms buying execution capacity for a strategy already settled, and firms wanting a channel run in isolation. In each case something cheaper would serve you better.
